Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all daily shelter operations, including staff supervision, scheduling, and ongoing training and development.
  • Drive measurable outcomes for animal welfare, focusing on reducing length of stay and increasing visibility, adoptions, and foster placements.
  • Create and implement forward-thinking strategies and policies to improve animal care and shelter efficiency.
  • Champion a culture of compassion, professionalism, and positivity among staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Ensure top-tier care for all animals, including feeding, enrichment, grooming, and coordination of medical care with veterinary partners.
  • Lead adoption efforts, screening processes, and adopter engagement to ensure great matches and successful placements.
  • Maintain precise records for animal intake, medical treatment, and outcome data to support shelter transparency and reporting.
  • Coordinate transfers with partner rescues and play an active role in lifesaving collaboration.
  • Spearhead outreach events and partnerships to promote responsible pet ownership and increase community support for our mission.
  • Act as a key representative of HSPS to the public, donors, and community stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum of 3 years of management experience in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, ideally with 10+ staff.
  • A desire for learning – Individuals with strong management experience but no shelter management will be expected to immerse themselves in learning the most current and comprehensive animal welfare strategies, tools and resources.
  • Proven ability to lead, multitask, and manage multiple priorities with calm, confidence, and clarity.
  • Experience working with animals in a shelter, veterinary, or rescue setting strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of animal behavior, health, and care standards for cats and dogs.
  • Confidence in representing the organization publicly, including strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable using shelter software, social media platforms, spreadsheets, and scheduling systems.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and occasional emergencies.
  • Experience with or enthusiasm for community outreach, donor engagement, and volunteer coordination is a plus.

Relocation assistance is available for candidates with a minimum of 3 years Animal Welfare Management Experience.

Position Overview
The Humane Society of Pagosa Springs is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable in-house Bookkeeper to support the organization’s day-to-day financial operations. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring sound accounting practices, and supporting the financial health of a mission-driven nonprofit organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage financial records using QuickBooks Online
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial statements
  • Ensure proper coding and documentation of expenses and revenues
  • Support payroll coordination and related reporting
  • Assist with preparation for audits, grant reporting, and year-end close
  • Maintain organized and compliant financial files and records
  • Work collaboratively with management to ensure financial accuracy and transparency

Qualifications

  • Proven proficiency with QuickBooks Online (required)
  • QB payroll processing a plus
  • Solid understanding of general accounting principles and best practices
  • 3 years prior bookkeeping or accounting experience
  • Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Comfortable working with multiple software platforms, including CRM systems and cloud-based tools
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy

The Humane Society of Pagosa Springs is seeking a Fundraising & Events Manager to play a key role in advancing our mission through donor engagement, fundraising events, and community outreach.

This position helps lead fundraising and community events, develops direct mail appeals and other marketing efforts, participates in media outreach including radio interviews, and coordinates the work of marketing staff, social media specialists, volunteers, and vendors. The role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, people, and timelines at the same time.

Ideal candidates are:

  • Strong writers and storytellers who can communicate impact clearly
  • Comfortable building relationships and speaking directly with donors
  • Highly organized and able to multitask across events, activities, and people
  • Experience putting on high level fundraisers
  • Comfortable using contact management systems, donor databases, Excel, and learning new software platforms
  • Flexible and available for varying schedules, including evenings and weekends during event season

Salary range: $55,000 – $60,000 per year, depending on experience

The Humane Society of Pagosa Springs Thrift Store is looking for a donation receiving team member to help cover our new uptown donation drop off center and work shifts at the downtown location. Hours and pay will be flexible according to what responsibilities and experience candidates bring.

This can be a fast pace job with a lot of movement throughout the day. It requires repeatedly lifting heavy boxes and furniture. The ideal candidates will also assist with furniture pickups and drive a box truck.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner
  • Provide excellent customer service by answering questions and resolving issues
  • Maintain a clean and organized store environment
  • Stock shelves and ensure products are properly displayed
  • Process customer incoming donations accurately and efficiently
  • Schedule and pick-up large furniture from donor’s houses as needed
  • Assist with receiving and unpacking donations
