Flood Assistance

We hope you made it through this second wave of flooding safely. Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected, and we know many in our community are facing difficult and uncertain circumstances right now.

If you or someone you know needs a safe place for their pets, we are still accepting animals displaced by the flooding. Please call the shelter at 970-731-4771, or call Alex after hours at 970-444-2236. No one should have to worry about finding a safe place for their pets during an already stressful time.

We’re incredibly grateful to share that both the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs Shelter and our Thrift Store made it through the flooding (although there’s water in the basement)! We’re breathing a big sigh of relief, but we know the challenges aren’t over yet.

Many of our shelter employees still need to remain home due to road conditions and flooding. Thankfully, we have dedicated staff staying overnight at the shelter to ensure our animals continue receiving the care they need while also helping pets being evacuated from their homes.

RESOURCES

  • If individuals need additional supplies (crates, pet food, litter boxes, leashes, etc.) to be able to keep their animals with them while displaced, please call 970-731-4771, or 970-444-2236 after hours and we can arrange to distribute from the shelter.
  • Pet food is available now at our shelter, Our Community Eats, and PCI while supplies last.
  • We’ll continue distributing pet food to established food banks this week.
  • Flood relief vouchers for clothing and linens from the HSPS Thrift Store are available for pickup at PCI for people directly affected by the flooding. Bring your PCI voucher to 279 Pagosa Street. In the event the thrift store is closed, call 970-585-6904.

Thank you to Colorado Pet Pantry, Our Community Eats and Pagosa Community Initiative (PCI) for helping us distribute pet related resources for our neighbors who need them most right now. We’re grateful to play a small part in helping families keep their beloved animals safe during this difficult time.

Thank you for helping us weather the storm so we can continue being here for the animals and people who need us. We’re grateful for every one of you.
